My husband and I retired to Florida and feel that buying our retirement home in Indian Harbour Beach real estate is the answer that makes a retirement dream come true. Being only two miles square and with a population of approximately 8,000 citizens, this town on the central Florida east coast is ideally situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the calm Indian River Lagoon.

Not only is it a delight to relax in beautiful surroundings among other retirees who share our laid back lifestyle, but we can also enjoy the Florida sunshine and all the benefits of living in this residential community town close to the Kennedy Space Center. Being near the beach allows for sunbathing, walking near the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, and going out on a boat to view the scenery or go saltwater fishing and participate in other water sports.

Eating at local "hidden gems" is fun. The Scrambled Egg Cafe is in the back of a building facing Highway A1A and has incredible breakfasts including homemade biscuits and muffins, Eggs Benedict, quiches, and fresh orange juice as you view artwork on the walls by Damien Share, a local artist. Memaw's BBQ is said to have the best barbecue in Brevard County as well as a bluegrass and jazz bands that perform on a regular basis.

We can picnic at beachfront parks or stroll through the 27 acre Gleason Park, which is lit up at night by Victorian lights. The park has a heated year-round pool open seven days a week and a recreation complex where there are many activities and classes. The Senior Leisuretime Club is special for the "young at heart". If grandparents have younger visitors, there are two playgrounds and pool parties as well as activities including the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Breakfast with the Easter Bunny or the Christmas in the Park celebration with a visit by Santa if the children happen to be there at those holiday times.

Located only five miles from Melbourne Florida, we can go there off Highway 95 to the Brevard Zoo with its more than 550 animals and ride the train or take a paddle boat ride or take the zip line and end up later experiencing daily animal encounters, many exhibits, and perhaps feed and pet the giraffes and other species in the petting zoo. There are feeding dispensers in different places. The animals have their own "continents" to keep them happy and present them to the visitors in what is similar to their native habitats.
